The story began on 4 July 1862, during a boating trip on the Thames with ten year old Alice Liddell, her sisters Lorina and Edith, and the Reverend Robinson Duckworth. At their request, Dodgson spun the first version of this fantastical tale, later published in 1865, which contains many playful references to that memorable day. This edition presents
