It is uniform in color, and completely untreated. The source is most likely India. There are always two birthstones for each month. May is generally known for emerald, but the alternative is chrysoprase which is a beautiful yellowish green material generally cut into cabochons. This is a green form of chalcedony, a lovely translucent variety of agate.
