In practice, it means an opposing Blasphemous Act will only deal five damage to your board, and a Chandras Ignition will deal double damage to everything that isnt yours (and incidentally, only half to your creatures)

It can protect valuable cards from black discard, and can combine with library shuffling effects to improve your draw (such as Thawing Glaciers, Flooded Strand, or Ramosian Sergeant)
Prosper, Tome-Bound requires considerably more setup to use optimally, but if your deck is already playing a lot of cards that let you play cards from exile, the value it generates from its Treasure tokens can be absolutely silly
