Each card a player draws from their deck represents a magical spell which can be used to their advantage in battle
They just get less prominence then they used to when we only had three major releases to worry about

Tera Pokemon also cant be hurt while on the Bench (which is to say, in play but not the currently Active Pokemon) and will often have a powerful ability in the Charizard exs case, you can search your deck for up to three Fire Energy cards and then immediately attach them to any of your Pokemon, in any way you like
There's also no way to play with them once they're finished, so they're very much a collector's piece
Whereas most of the more exciting land cards in Magic: The Gathering have some cost associated with them, whether it's coming into play tapped, paying life, or only producing colourless mana, your typical snow land is virtually indistinguishable from any other basic land card
