They give you good 1-for-1 removal that can even be disruptive, and adding Surveil to the mix is nice

Fungus Sliver I'm pretty sure that Fungus Sliver can be part of an infinite combo, especially if you give it indestructible with something like Tamiyo's Safekeeping

If you like tribal midrange-y aggro decks with a bit of a combo finish, give Chocobo a shot

But I think LotR fans who are new to Magic will like this set more than D&D fans who did the same for Adventures in the Forgotten Realms
